SSI Divemaster Internship position available at Dolphin's Diving Center:

Divemaster wanted - Join us and make a Scuba diving internship at Dolphin's Diving Center, at Costa Brava, Spain.
Divemaster candidates will gain a unique insight and hands-on experience working in the scuba dive industry while obtaining the education, training and credentials needed to become a SSI Divemaster.
At the end of July Dive Instructor courses will be available to our interns at a discounted rate.

A career as a SSI Divemaster or Open Water Scuba Instructor is nothing less than spending your working life exploring and guiding others through a precious part of the underwater world.

Diving Internship Places Available:

To maintain high quality training we limit the amount of interns to a maximum of 3. You will be trained by different staff instructors and Instructor Trainer.

Divemaster Internship Time Period: 1 Month minimum.

For an Open Water Diver to attain the professional level of Divemaster or Dive Control Specialist, an 8 week internship is recommended. If you are entering our program as an Advanced Open Water Diver, we recommend 6 Weeks to complete your Divemaster/Dive Control Specialist internship. For Rescue certified divers, 4 weeks is typically enough time.
You may be able to finish the course work sooner but gaining experience is the most important (and fun) part of the internship.
If you are certified with an agency other than SSI, we can convert your current certification to the SSI system with no additional time or expense.

Divemaster Intern Accommodation:

Accommodation is included in the Divemaster internship and Instructor programs. You will stay in a house, shared with other instructors.
Lunch and Food can be bought at large nearby supermarket and cooked at the kitchen in the house. There is a restaurant and bar only 5 minutes by car from the house and several other local restaurants are nearby of various calibers and prices. The house has WI-FI Internet.
Additional nights at the intern house before or after your internship are available for 10€ per night. (as long as space is available).
If you are looking for private or more upscale accommodation we are more than happy to assist you in finding another place.

Requirements:

Open Water diving certification recommended. Friendly, motivated, outdoorsy and fun water-lover with respect for nature and a minimum of 20 years of age. It is important to be in good physical shape.

Responsibilities:
  • Staff dive shop; sign up clients for activities and assist with their retail purchases.
  • Assist in the preparation of the dive boats, loading tanks and setting up guests equipment as well as end of day shut down activities.
  • Learn to fill dive tanks.
  • Help gearing up customers with diving equipment.
  • Assist our staff with divers, students and other fun divers in their programs.
  • Help with the overall customer flow and safety of guest divers.

Additional Opportunities:
  • Dive daily (usually once, sometimes more).
  • Boat Dive.
  • Practice Spanish.
  • Assist in monthly Instructor Development Course IDC
  • Spend time at Costa Brava and Barcelona
  • Meet people from all over the world with the same passion for diving.
  • During the Internship you will also have the option to do any specialty diver courses at great prices, and afterwards continue your education by becoming an a Dive Control Specialist or Open Water Scuba Instructor.

Divemaster Internship Cost: What's included?

Pick up when you arrive, accommodation, course fees from your level up to Divemaster, diving equipment use are included in this adventure. However, breakfast, dinner, flights, visas (where applicable) and insurance are not included. The cost of your adventure is broken down to the time you spend here.
We recommend:
4 weeks  € 800*, if you arrive as Rescue Diver certified with more than 30 dives.
5 weeks € 930*, if you arrive as Rescue Diver certified with less than 30 dives.
6 weeks € 1060*, if you arrive as Advanced Open Water certified with more than 20 dives.
7 weeks € 1100*, if you arrive as Advanced Open Water certified with less than 20 dives.
8 weeks  € 1250*, if you arrive as Open Water certified.
9 weeks  € 1600*, if you arrive as non-certified.

SSI Training Material, certification cost:

Please note that the Divemaster internship cost includes instruction however SSI standards require that student divers have in their possession, a personal set of training materials for study and use during the course and for reference afterward. Also SSI charges a fee when sending  official dive course cards.
The DM application is included in above cost but has to be paid to SSI with credit card. SSI requires that each Divemaster candidate must own a personal pocket mask (€ 36), a Whistle (€ 6), a Compass (€ 62), a Dive knife (€ 29), an underwater watch (€ 62) and surface signaling device (€ 36). Not included in above prices. We have these available for sale individually or take advantage of our discounted “Pro Packs” that we offer to our Divemaster candidates at a discount of 20% off our regular prices above!
The internship cost does not include flights, insurance, breakfast or food. All candidates must have insurance. It is recommended that you budget € 200 per month for food shopping (depending on appetite!) and going out. Food stores are nearby. Please realize that by joining this diving adventure you are not guaranteeing your certification in any courses since SSI course certification is a result of completing/passing required coursework, completing dives and/or examinations.

Dive Control Specialist and Open Water Instructor Course:

Once you have completed your Divemaster internship you have the option to expand your employability, knowledge and skills by becoming a Dive Control Specialist or Instructor. 
The Dive Control Specialist is the first step and can be added ‘on demand’ during your Internship, taking about 7 days. The cost is an additional to your Internship fees (this includes Accomodation,  Equipment use, IDC Crew Pack, AI course fee & SSI application fee). Instructor Development Courses at Dolphin's Diving  scheduled to run once every 2 months directly followed by an Instructor Examination here in Lloret de Mar. As a Dolphin’s candidate & SSI Divemaster you can attend our IDC and enjoy the benefit of a 10% IDC course fee reduction. The cost is an additional € 2300 in fees (this includes Accomodation, Equipment use, Diving, the IDC Crew Pack, EFR Instructor Manual, Dive Control Course fee, IDC Course fee,  Emergency Oxygen Provider Course fee, EFR Instructor Course fee, and SSI OWSI Examination/Application fee).

To train to be a SSI Divemaster, an Open Water diver must complete the following courses:

Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver, Emergency First Response and Divemaster. Anywhere else, totaling approximately €3520  in Instruction costs. Additionally, a diver must have completed a total of 60 Open Water dives (which can cost about €35 each) before eligibility as a Divemaster. So, there is NO CHEAPER WAY to become an excellent diver than with a Divemaster Internship at Dolphin's Diving Center. Experience a new lifestyle and come back home as "Pro".
